LETTER FROM THE EDITOR / June 2022 / Kolleen Carney-Hoepfner

Hello friends!

Happy pride! I trust that you are all well? I hope so, anyway. I love pride month because it's when I feel I can show off my gay side loudest; I'm a bisexual woman in a straight presenting relationship, and it took me many years to get over the imposter syndrome of it all. But life is too short for imposter syndrome, so I gave it up years ago in the radical interest of self love.

It's no secret that the LGBTQ+ community has been targeted directly lately by the alt right, the GOP, and conservatives everywhere under the asinine idea of "saving the children", as if a rainbow flag is more damaging than an AR15 (or even just a conservative parent... yikes). It has always been our mission to be a safe haven for all under the queer umbrella, and to fight loudly and obnoxiously anyone whose views are bigoted nonsense. I hope you know that we love you for who you are, and are here to fight the good fight.

As for Drunk Monkeys in general, we are closed this month for all submissions, and next month when we reopen poetry and fiction will remain closed. We are working through our large backlog of accepted pieces and this is the only way I can figure to catch up with them. We will be open for 24 hour submissions, and if you choose to submit a poetry piece or fiction piece, you are understanding that it may be quite a while before you show up on the actual site itself. We're also getting ready to announce our first chapbook under our press, Cherry Dress. So watch out for that.

I don't want to keep this editor’s letter long, everybody's been waiting long enough to show up on the site. So let's just get to the June issue. Thank you to all of the contributors for their words and their patience!

Always,

KCH
