Science by S.C. Stuckey

The new religion of devout followers
believe what the eye cannot see
the holy trinity of protons, electrons, neutrons
dressed in their robes in their laboratory churches
eagerly masticating Eve’s apple
consuming all they can from the tree of knowledge

The new word of the lord, scientific method
elucidating the laws of the universe
in language so extraordinary
the clerics must translate
Einstein and Hawking the new high priests
delivering the holy words to the masses

The new congregations clashing
with the old religions as scientists
holding themselves aloft from faith
they deem foolish and mock
just as Catholics deride
mythology as a fanciful story
